Kweli Tutashinda, D.C.

Kweli Tutashinda, D.C. is Owner and Director of the Imhotep Chiropractic & Wellness Center. He is also Owner at Nano Education Project, Co-Owner, Family Cooperative at Imhotep Publishing, and English Teacher at the Upward Bound Program at University of California at Berkeley.
 
His Nano Education Project is a consulting and educational service focusing on dialoging with and educating indigenous and grassroots communities on the benefits and potential hazards of nanotechnology and other emergent technologies. K envisioned and helped organize and produce Oakland’s First Nanotechnology and Student Achievement Workshop held on 1–22–11 at City Hall. He served on Mayor’s Economic and Technology Task Force in 2009–2010.
 
Imhotep Publishing is an independent publishing company specializing in books on health, indigenous studies, technology, the Singularity, futurism, grassroots politics, African-American Studies and spirituality. Their latest book is “The Singularity is Already Here: An Indigenous and Grassroots Perspective on Our Technological Future”. Others include “Therapeutic Exercises for The Spine”, “Towards a Holistic Worldview”, and “It’s Our Time: Ella Baker, Participatory Democracy and Oakland, California”.
 
The Imhotep Chiropractic & Wellness Center is a Holistic and Chiropractic center featuring chiropractic, acupuncture, soft tissue massage, therapeutic exercise, lifestyle and dietary management, weight loss and stress management. Although a 21st century center utilizing the latest research and technology, Imhotep’s methods are based on ancient practices such as Egyptian, Indian, and Chinese healing systems. “Where Tradition Meets the 21st Century.”
 
At the Upward Bound Program at University of California at Berkeley, K teaches English to college bound inner city high school students. Present focus is “How Can Nanotechnology Help Empower Indigenous Societies?”
 
From January 2006 to January 2011, K was Convener for the Oakland Mayor’s Task Force on Youth Violence. He convened and facilitated the proposal and implementation process to find causes and solutions to youth violence. His responsibilities included developing specific agenda, coordinating meetings, researching and analyzing data, dialogue facilitation, and writing and presentation of proposals.
 
K studied Chemistry/Pre-Med at Fisk University from 1974 to 1976. He earned his B.A. in Philosophy at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1978. He earned his D.C. in Chiropractic at Life Chiropractic College West in 1989.
