Victoria McGrath, M.A.
Victoria
McGrath, M.A. is Director, Sustainability Office at the Town of
Markham, a
rapidly growing, vibrant community of 300,000, located immediately north
of the City of Toronto.
Her current responsibilities include
overseeing the development of the Greenprint, Markham’s community
sustainability plan and ensuring Councils’ strategic priorities are
achieved. The Greenprint sustainability plan will establish Markham’s
vision and goals for an environmentally, socially, culturally and
economically sustainable future, and set targets for 2050 and beyond.
Victoria previously held a number of progressively senior positions with
the City of Scarborough, City of Toronto, and the Ontario Provincial
Ministry of Environment and served as an instructor in Humber College’s
Ecotourism program. She currently serves on the Federation of
Canadian Municipalities Peer Review Committee for the Green Municipal
Fund and the Climate Change Task Force for the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario.
She is also an avid runner and a member of the Markham Centaurs
running club, which is dedicated to promoting recreational running in
the Markham community and provides volunteers at many community events.
She has also completed three Ironman Triathlon competitions,
comprised of a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, and 42 km run.
Victoria completed her undergraduate degree in Environmental and
Resource Studies and English at Trent University. In 2010, she
completed a Masters level distance learning course on Leadership in
Strategic Sustainable Development through the Blekinge Institute of
Technology in Sweden. She is currently completing a two-year
Masters in Sustainability Leadership with the University of Cambridge,
England.
